Gleb Polyakov and Igor Zamlinsky: Inventors and Founders of ZPM Espresso
Coffee connects people. Millions of people build their livelihoods on producing it, and millions of people consume it every day. Whether it’s in your kitchen or in a café in the largest city in the world, coffee is something that brings people together. It should be inclusive, not exclusive. Their mission is to make great espresso affordable and accessible, and they believe that through open-source software and affordable manufacturing techniques, they can get more people in touch with their inner coffee geek.
The company is a lean (four people), mean (well, not really), espresso-machine-making (that one’s true!) operation based in Atlanta, GA, and Blacksburg, VA. They love coffee and love technology. But they’re also recent college grads and grad students, and quality consumer espresso machines on the market come with a serious price tag. When shopping around for a machine, they found themselves disappointed with the options – they couldn’t find a good machine for under $700, and couldn’t find any home machine that offered the technology or espresso experience they were looking for.
Why settle? So they decided to build their own. They took the espresso machine back to the drawing board, and made a machine that will make great at-home espresso for everyone.
